Dear Amit,
You probably just don't have these two lines
in your httpd.conf file:
AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .php3
AddType application/x-httpd-php3-source .phps
If those are missing, add them and restart Apache.

Subject: Re: [linux-delhi] php3 and apache
hi !
I spent the entire day today, trying to install Apache and php3.
all in vain ! Phew !! :((
ok now the scenario.
I had apache that came with mandrake 7.0 in my puter.
then i installed php3 and i couldnt find where was my apache installed.
apache's files were scattered in....
/home/httpd the web pages(manual etc).
/usr/bin/httpd lots of .so files
/usr/lib
and a many other directories.
during the php3 .setup script i was asked a lot of questions about where
many applications were installed.
now please tell me....
1. the default locations in mandrake 7.0 for.....MySQL, postgreSQL,
Apache,
2. whats the difference between installing php3 as a shared Apache module
and as a DSA shared apache module ?
3. any other problems i am likely to have !
I installed php3 as per the instructions given in bigmanual.htm in
www.php.net
then i removed php3 and apache from my system....
then i downloaded the .tar.gz format apache and installed apache
the web server was working fine with http://localhost/
then i installed php3(also in .tar.gz format) as per the bigmanual
instructions.
and when i try say http://localhost/test.php3
it showed me the php3 code instead of the actual output !!
then i did some changes in .conf files (which i dont remember now)
And now the present status is.....
when i start my web server....
and i write an address say ...ummm.... http://localhost/test.php3
Netscape navigator asks me if i wish to save the file or open it ??? (as if
it was a .zip file or anything)
What do i do ??? :(((((
BTW Why cant we have a single directory wher all the linux OS files are
stored ??? why is it that in a standard installation i have to face about
200 directories in total and about 10 directoreis in the root ??? this way
how will i learn ?
Thanx for saving my tommorow !!!
