Hi sandip,
my very personal opinion is that with the current state of expertise
required to install linux and to identify all your hardware to it, it is
not for non-programmers, at least not yet.

so linux has to go a long way before somebody's mom or somebody's wife
would feel inclined to use it as effortlessly as windows, not to speak
of somebody's tiny tots. 

i guess that by choosing a (currently) dummy competitor like linux
against the omnipresent mighty windoze, M$ is just trying to fill a gap
for its developers and assosiates who might have become quite complacent
in absence of any competition.

that might explain the duality on M$'s opinions about linux.
