trying to tinker with XF86Setup i ended up deleting
/usr/X11R6/bin/X. Now this file is basically used by xdm (or startx)
and it points to the appropriate X server to be used (such as VGA16 or
SVGA or Mah64 or, in my case, XFCom-i810). so i simply copied the
file XFcom_i810 in /usr/X11R6/bin to X.

now i have a problem. i can only run X as root. also, xdm runs fine so
when i login as myself, i.e. akr, it just goes thru login, and then in
a flash relaunches xdm with a blank login prompt. i.e. xdm will accept
only root login to proceed further.

i am sure this has something to do with permissions. i would rather
not make akr as a sudoer.

what should i do? (the perms on /usr/X11R6/bin/X are +rx for
everybody.
