Hi!
I think you should be trying out iODBC or unixODBC. I had tried to use
it about  an year back and had given up for some reason ... basically
unixODBC lets you install ODBC drivers for the various databases in
Linux, which in turn accesses the ORacle or whatever databases using
named-pipes(or whatever if they are running on the same machine) or
the relevant network protocol if they are running on some other
machine lke an "EnTee" ;)
