You can easily get people to lend you RH 6.2 or 7
However, I suggest that you need a personal copy coz u need to keep trying
things
( which may include reinstalls / updates of the installed packages )
If its 7 you want ...I suggest you pick up RedHat 7 Unleased ( it includes 3
cds ) and its worth the 400 odd bucks)
Further with RHL 7 you will manage to get your X firing up right away
