Hi!
Open the file /etc/pam.d/login in some editor vi or pico and just comment the 
line..(put #)
auth       required    /lib/security/pam_securetty.so 
Now u can login as root directly,

I login using a normal account and use su.
Then I run the ocmmands from /usr/sbin or /sbin
