Firstly if your database is on the same machine where u are trying to
connect through sqlplus u do not need to give the "@" and database name.
Have u checked the connection to the database through the net 8 easy config.
If that works fine install the client component again and make sure it is a
complete install (do not exclude any component).
This should solve ur problem.
