Hi friends,

I have Compaq Server Intel PIII 733 with SCSI hard disks 9 and 10 GB each.
When I boot my server is show error below, I think hard disk is faulty.
Please guide me to save precious data if reinstalling.

error is ..

Checking root file system
/dev/sda1 contains a file system with errors, check forced
/dev/sda1
unattached inode 212374
/dev/sda1 : unexpected inconsistency; run fsck manually.
*** An error occured during file system check.
*** Dropping you to a shell; the system will reboot
*** when you leave the shell.

Give root password for maintenance
(or type control-D for Normal startup)

when I type root password It shows shell prompt
[root@mail]

but I can not make changes in any conf files.

if I do control + D
then system reboots.
