Nononono. Diald isnt a proxy, thats another thing entirely, even though
diald refers to sl0 as a "proxy interface". You dont have to configure
anything on the win95 machines except the gateway address in the TCP/IP
stack (control panel-network-tcp/ip). That should be whatever address youve
assigned to our linux box, not what your ISP gave you.
Of course, you will, in reality, have to configure some things. Email
clients may keep the link up by checking every 5 minutes. Internet Explorer
4 may make http connections if youve "subscribed" to some pages or
channels. Also, if you wish to refer to your win95 machines by name rather
than IP number, something has to translate them. You dont want them asking
your ISPs nameserver who "barney" is if "barney" is a hostname you made up
for a machine on your lan. You could run named for that purpose and
configure the win95 boxes to use that nameserver, or you could create a
"hosts" file in c:\windows on each box. (See c:\windows\hosts.sam). You will
doubtless be hit by many surprises with thw in95 machines keeping your
connection up day and night.
