RedHat 5.0 with:

kernel-2.0.32-3
ppp-2.3.3-2
diald-0.16.4-1
diald-config-0.1-1

Have ppp working.

If I kill the diald process,
ifup ppp0 successfully brings the link up,
and ifdown ppp0 brings it down.

If I restart diald and dctrl, then execute
a command that I would expect to bring the
link up, dctrl shows a CONNECT state, but
does not indicate an interface or any ip
numbers. A chat script runs and logs into
my ISP successfully. The state goes to
START_LINK. After a few seconds something
times out. The states change rapidly and
it retries. This time dctrl shows interface
sl0 and the appropriate ip numbers. It must
have found them in ifcfg-ppp0, either that or
I'm really confused. When it times out this
time it goes through the states a bit slower:
DISCONNECT, CLOSE, RETRY, DOWN, CONNECT (chat
script logs in again), START_LINK (time out),
....

/etc/syslog.conf has been set to log all the
daemon messages in /var/log/daemon.

when ifup ppp0 brings the link up I can see
the ppp negotiation in /var/log/daemon.
but not when diald tries to bring the link up.

Any ideas?
