Hi all,

I have some problems with diald, certainly related to my setup,
but after spending 3 days trying and RTFMing, I thought you
can help me.

My setup :

- Intel Pentium 90
- Zyxel 2864i on my ISDN line
- RedHat Linux 5.0 with custom-compiled kernel 2.0.34
- ppp rpm version 2.3.2
- diald version 0.16.4 (I think, or is it pl 5 ?)

I have had a working connection to my provider using PPP.
Both sides (remote & local) use dynamic IP addresses.

I have tried to automate this connection with diald, but I get
lots of very strange problems.

I did enable the debug, to see what happen. So far, I am able to
make the connect happen, but after a disconnect, my machine
act very strangely.

- /var/log/ppp.log and /var/log/messages don't show the ppp / diald
disconnection
- a reconnect try doesn't do anything
- init 6 does nothing
- shutdown -r now does nothing
- su - is impossible
- ctrl-alt-del doesn't trigger the shutdown (it's working in normal
cond.)
- but I can mainly continue to work from the open terminals

To reboot the machine, I use "shutdown -r -n now" which
avoid init and makes it itself. Kind of brutal way, but
still better than the reset button :-)

No I would like to see a working setup example, for
PPP with dynamic addresses, comprising :

/etc/ppp/options
/etc/ppp/chatscript (for your modem, I know I will have to adapt it)
/etc/diald.conf

OK so far. Thanks in advance for your help.

Charles
