Yes, I am running sendmail. Thanks (Janet and Graham) for pointing me to
it. I have config'd sendmail to relay thru my ISP's SMTP host and I
believe it is trying to resolve SMTP host DNS name to an address when
sendmail is started at bootup which in turn caused diald to dial out.
