I'm using Redhat Linux 5.1 and have configured PPP so that it
works properly. The interface is set to start at bootup and to
"persist". All this works fine, with all routing to the internet
working properly as well.

In order to get diald to work I changed /etc/sysconfig/network-
scripts/ifcfg-ppp0 so that PPP does not start at bootup and does
not persist.

These changes allow Diald to load and to monitor my internet
connection. When a request for internet services wakes up diald it
makes a connection to the ISP (as indicated by modem lights) but
doesn't succeed in bringing up the interface?

This seems to be related to the improper running of the
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-ppp script from a command line?

How do I prep or tweak my PPP interface so that it will come up
properly under diald (with routes properly working) just as it does
when loaded during the boot process?

Thanks.
