4Mb RAM is sufficient for just shell use. You can even make X work with
4 Mb though I would not recommend it. It gets as bad as Win95 on 4 Mb of
RAM (which is saying something!). I have made X work with only 8 Mb
before, so it's possible, though it *is* sluggish. I agree, the best
thing to do is make sure you've got plenty of RAM for X.

not?

It's powerful enough, but I think you have too little RAM.
You will probably not be able to install Linux unless you
have at least 12MB (8 might work, but you should check your
distribution). Once it is installed, you can certainly
run with 8MB, I am not sure whether 4MB will work. If you
want to use the GUI-based administration tools (which is
probably easier if you are new to Linux) then you should
not have less than 16MB under any circumstances.

Also, the ISDN card might be a problem. It is not on the
list of supported cards by ISDN4Linux:

According to http://x12.dejanews.com/getdoc.xp?AN=241724157 it
might be compatible with the Solis-S card, but that isn't on
the list either. From http://www.high-soft-tech.de/

You can do this simply if your Internet provider lets you
use Asynchronous PPP over ISDN. This is ISDN over an X.75
connection. You simply use your normal setup, but run it
on /dev/ttyI0, which works rather like a standard AT-command
modem, but runs digitally at 64kbit/s.

It is also possible to use diald with synchronous PPP, (normal
PPP for ISDN, controlled with isdnctrl), but it is not a very
popular solution, and I don't know how difficult it is. I think
there is some info on http://www.ursusmaj.demon.co.uk

If you have more questions on ISDN4Linux, which is the software
for internal ISDN cards on Linux, you should probably look at the
newsgroup de.alt.comm.isdn4linux, which is a German or English
newsgroup, also available on www.dejanews.com or as the mailing
list [EMAIL PROTECTED]
