It means that the pppd on the remote end decided to drop the
connection. Maybe it has a timeout. Maybe it has seen too many
errors from your end. There is a suspicion around that 2.2 has
a problem with vj compression and that putting "-vj" in your
/etc/ppp/options helps things.
