I did that kind of setup several months ago when I decided to switch
from
a simple login/password authentication scheme with chat to PAP.
To make things work, I copied the chat script into /usr/local and
removed
all lines following the 'CONNECT' one. After having checked my
pap-secrets
file I have simply applied these changes to /etc/diald.conf:
#connect "/usr/sbin/chat -v -f /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0"
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -v -f /usr/local/etc/chat-ppp0"
pppd-options name <my-login-name>
and all was fine.

where I describe all my diald setup, including sendmail and fetchmail.

J'ai eu � faire ce type de manip il y a quelques mois quand j'ai d�cid�
de
passer d'une simple authentification login/password via chat � PAP.
Pour que ca roule, j'ai copi� le chat script dans /usr/local et vir�
toutes
les lignes qui suivaient 'CONNECT'. Apr�s avoir v�rifi� mon fichier
pap-secrets j'ai juste chang� ce qui suit dans /etc/diald.conf:
#connect "/usr/sbin/chat -v -f /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0"
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -v -f /usr/local/etc/chat-ppp0"
pppd-options name <mon-nom-de-login>
et tout a fonctionn� du premier coup.
