so please type 'route' at the prompt in all the mentioned different situations.

that problem remains still unsolved for me, too. I hope to find a way out trying
the new version 0.98.2 of diald. (still using version 0.16-4)
BTW this version will log the trigger of the connection in /var/log/messages so
it will be much easier to solve your problem.
