Hi

I'm new on this list and has a few questions regarding diald which i
hope
other members of the list could provide the answers for.

First of all what is diald-0.98.3 ? I thought that diald-0.16.5 was the
latest ?

Secondly i'm the lucky owner of a cable modem for which i would like to
use
diald. Yes i know that most people think that this is not necessary but
my setup
is unusual as far as i can tell: My PC has been assigned a STATIC
IP-number
and in order to gain Internet access i must telnet to a remote machine
and login.
This is done through the same device in which i gain access.
Then i have Internet access though my standard network device (or rather
the
network device to which the cable modem is connected). This poses some
difficulties with respect to diald. I have used the ethernet device as
device for
diald and running in mode dev. The one major problem i have left is
buffering
of packets. When i try open the line i loose the first few packets. I've
traced
the problem to the ethernet device WHICH IS ALWAYS UP. Thus diald
doesn't
buffer the packets ! Anybody got a hint ? Should i introduce some type
of fake
ethernet device which diald could bring up and down ? Note that i cannot
tell
in fact whether my link is up or down. I can login or logout but i
cannot tell
status on the line (The link is automatically broken after 5 minutes
without
traffic)

HELP !!
