I don't know enough to help you with your rpm/Debian problem but I'm 
fairly confident in saying that if diald isn't running (or gets 
killed) then dctrl won't work in the manner you've described. As you 
can see from the log, diald is dieing - until this is fixed I 
wouldn't expect dctrl to function.

Hope someone else can help with the cause!
