Nice start, I really like your coding style, it's quite easy to read.

A few months ago I wrote something similar, but a bit more elaborate
in perl. Someday I intend to release it as free software, but it's not
quite ready yet. There's one minor bug (Forced connections don't alway
show up in the display, they did during testing), and there's no
documentation. My wife, my son, and I all use it on our home network
to monitor and control diald. There are two separate perl scripts to
control the link and one to monitor it.

If no one minds posting them to the list I, I could, if that would
bother those who aren't interested, I could put the code up on my web
page.

If anyone is interested either way, let me know.

If anyone wants to email me directly over the three day weekend, it
