I have 2.0.34 on my Caldera release. I see you use a sparc processor. What
kernel version are most RH users using? There has been some talk about the
kernel refusing to write to named pipes and so on this list lately. Could the
fact that a simple 'wait for pipe to come up' does actually work, but 'you're
not allowed to talk into that pipe anyway' is the problem?

Are there any RH4.2 users out there who have tried to fiddle with dctrl?
I think it is also interesting to know which platform you are running on, since
it seems that RH5.1 on sparc work 'sanely' (If you can say something like that
about a computer :-))
