Well, I do load that module on startup. The thing that messes with me is
that if I kill diald and then go right ahead and use the ppp-on scripts to
connect, it works fine. Knowing that you had the same behavior without
the ftp module helps though, thanks for the suggestion. Perhaps I need to
recompile the old kernel and modules... Time to get some new kernel source
anyway.
