Michael I identify this as a typical newbie querie. They usually don't get that much attention (or RTFM). Since I regard myself a s a newbie (and know how it feels) I tell what I know, not necessarily beeing the whole truth. If I'm wrong please tell me so. identd is a service that responds with a username when asked for. For example when you ftp, the other machine knows your name, and prompts with your name at the login prompt. I think the reason is that the other machine asks your identd for the username of the tcp connecion. If identd for some reason cannot anser a request, it ansers with NO-USER. This may me because it is a service that has no ordinary user, like mail. Or it could be because you turned the service off. If you don't want your usernames to be sent around the internet, you better turn identd off. I think you do not need to bother about the messages, unless some user complains about the service not working. Hope this will answer your question. /Mrten Michael Hallman wrote: > last problem.
