Have had a look at the SRPM patch - it seems to be a bit of code to delay
sending packets to pppd just after the pppd connection starts, allowing
completion of the link negotiation. There is nothing that I can see in the
patch to delay reading/writing to pipes.
As part of my trials in diald, I did try to recompile and install from the
SRPM which compiled but suffered the same fate of hang/redail as the
pre-compiled RPM.
