Maybe it's the same problem I had when I installed the diald rpm on
RH 5.0. It adds the following lines to /etc/syslog.conf
# Send ppp related stuff to diald's control program.
local2.* |/etc/diald/chat.fifo
I changed this to
local2.* /var/log/local2
I never had any problems after this.
