Things to check:

* Install at least 2.0.34 and enable RST-provoking (see
  /usr/src/linux/documentation/networking/ip_dynaddr.txt in 2.0.34 or later).
* Put all LAN IP-numbers in /etc/hosts:
  192.168.0.0   client0
  192.168.0.1   client1
  192.168.0.2   client2
  192.168.0.3   client3
  192.168.0.4   client4
  etc.
* Put your SMB workgroup name(s) in /etc/hosts
  192.168.0.0  workgroup
  192.168.0.0  accounts
* Tell Samba to ignore the diald interface (man smb.conf)
* Install a cacheing name server (works well for some people)
* Look at some sendmail-with-dial-on-demand FAQs or use smail
* Use 'killall -USR2 diald', tcpdump and other tools to see
  what is going on.
