You should use a connect script that does not run pppd itself!  Diald will
run pppd for you.  Diald wants a connect script that just dials the
connection and does whatever it needs to tell the other end to start ppp.
In your case it should just have to dial the number and wait for CONNECT.

Try:
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -v -f /etc/ppp/pppscript"
