Very simple: just add the line:
name <your pap username>
in your /etc/ppp/options file, and create the file /etc/ppp/pap-secrets
with the line:
<your pap username> * <your pap password>
if you create a file named chap-secrets in the same dir with same line,
you can also use chap autentication this way.
I use this configuration with diald-0.16-4 and pppd-2.2.0f on Caldera
Openlinux 1.1, and works fine.
If your provider's ppp server is buggy, you may also have to deal with
"passive", "lcp-restart" and other options of this kind.
