If you have a good version if diald and dctrl, have things set up right,
and start diald *before* dctrl, then dctrl will work very nicely.
The diald rpms that worked for me, are
diald-0.16.5a-1.i386.rpm
diald-config-0.16.5a-1.i386.rpm
Get them from one of the RedHat mirrors
in the contrib/libc6/i386/ directory.

There are lots of confused diald versions and source
floating around...
I have posted a working recipe for setting up diald
several times on this mailing list. It works on RH5.1
and 5.2 as long as Redhat's updates are already
installed. Send mail if you want it. It has been
used with success by several people on at least 6 different
machines.
This entire list could be replaced by one rpm.
The rpm would be installed after the diald rpms
are installed and after the person got /sbin/ifup ppp0
working. Something on the order of the
instant caching name server setup rpm that comes
with RedHat now. After installing the magic rpm,
diald will *just work*.
Maybe I will write the magic diald setup rpm and
put this list out of business :-). But first I will need
to buy Maximum RPM or get advice.
