Hmm...
You mean that *before* diald was installed, the printer worked fine
through lpr, but *after* diald was installed, it failed?
Wierd.
A shot in the dark, but I'd check the syslog and the mail log files
(/var/log/messages and /var/log/maillog on my machine) for any messages
at the time that you try to print. Beyond that you could strace
the lpd and see what happens. Strange, though. Let the list know
what you find out.
