I don't have any experience with 0.99, but something tells me you might
want to create a shell script called connect.sh , make that your connect
script, and call chat from within connect.sh .  Just a shot in the dark.
At least you'll be able to do more debugging that way.

Another thing: the speed may be wrong.  I haven't played with the new
kernel at all, but I suspect they may have finally gotten the serial line
speed to be realistic rather than faking it with spd_hi and spd_vhi.  Try
changing the speed to be the actual number, and careful with calling
setserial at boot time.

Also, try moving "lock" from /etc/ppp/options to /etc/ppp/peers/ , and put
"lock" into your diald options.
