I wanted to ask you that yesterday: whern you changed your modem, did you
changed the initialisations tring or the dialing string?
You may have to verify the initialisation string with your new modem.
Look at the initialisation string with the old modem, and figure out what
everything commands mean. Then find the equivalent command with your new
modem and if they are different, you will have to correct the command on
the initialisation string.
It is possible that your new modem is not configured properly (flow control
probably) and you loose the connection or some data in the transfers. With
your old modem, open minicom, type the initialisation string that diald
sends, and then type AT&V (to get the status of the registers): type these
values down, or copy them to a file.
With your new modem, do the same thing. Now compare the two by looking at
the manuals of your two modems, and make sure that the two modem have the
same status (flow control, compression, protocol, etc...)
