Greetings,
I have a couple of problems getting diald to work properly. My system is
Cyrix 6x86 with Debian 2.1, kernel 2.2.5, and libc6 2.1. My ISP assigns
dynamic IP addresses. I normally use pppd, which connects with no
problems.
The first problem is that when I try to establish a connection by, for
example, pinging my ISPs nameserver, diald successfully dials in with
pppd, logs in, and assigns my dynamic IP addresses to ppp0. But, the
connections only work rarely. Ping, telnet, Netscape, and anything else
just sit there doing nothing, while icmp and udp packets sit in the
connection queue. I notice that when I run xnetload looking at interface
ppp0, ping's activity shows in the out bytes and in the left side of the
Graphical Load Monitor of dctrl. Any ideas why this isn't working?
The other problem is that in one of the rare cases when a diald
connection worked, I ran telnet. The 10 minute counter for tcp
connections that normally disappears after quitting telnet did not
disappear. I figure this is a rule under diald.defs, but I am unfamiliar
with diald. How would I fix this?
Thanks,
Ben
