I just set up a couple of months ago a simple system for a client to do
exactly what you described. Seems easier than having scripts running on
each desktop, if that is what you were thinking.
Basically, I had:
A standalone linux PC connected to the LAN, acting as an Internet
gateway/mail server. Cron job to periodically go to ISP(s) to fetch mail
(using Fetchmail) then hand off to local Sendmail (on same linux PC), and
mail then get distributed locally. You can find Fetchmail at
http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/fetchmail
Hope this is helpful. - - -CL
: Hi.
: Sorry if this is a little off topic. I thought some diald users might
have
: the same item on their wish list, though.
: We have an intranet where most users have local email accts (Sendmail on
: Linux), and a lot of users also have Internet email accts, and the only
: reason they connect to the Internet is to get their email.
: Does anybody have or know where I can get a script/program/agent that
would
: periodically check & retrieve their email and then forward it to their
: local email address?
: If not, I suppose that'll be my next project; I just hate to reinvent the
: wheel if I don't have to ;-}
: TIA.
