You are not alone.
With 2.0.x kernels, the last diald that works for me (doesn't block connection
to the linux/diald box while online) is 0.98.2.
With 0.98.3, when the connection is up, not only ping doesn't work, but so do
telnet, rlogin...
I didn't tried 0.99 on 2.0.x kernel (compilation problems).
