Looks like diald is trying to configure the ppp interface with a metric
configuration, which is not supported.

Badly configured or programmed peer. Not much you can do except tell
your ISP and hope they listen. In either case, no harm done really.

Normal message. Your machine and the peer could not agree on a
compression protocol, so none was negotiated.
If you want to eliminate the messages, tell pppd not to attempt
compression negotiations. IMHO, its not worth the effort however.
No, this is not something you have done. It does happen. Find out what
kind of equipment your ISP is using, and make sure your next ISP does
not use the same stuff.
