good morning list !!! well, tried the following :

1) checked ethertap included in kernel
(sorry for bothering the list with my last question,
I "just" forgot placing ethertap in my new
kernel...clickketiclikketi...ops...)

2) echo 5 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_dynaddr

3) more ISP-nameserver entries in resolv.conf and named.conf (forwarders)

4) longer udp timeout (from 30 to 70):
        ignore udp udp.dest=udp.domain,udp.source=udp.domain
        accept udp 70 udp.dest=udp.domain
        accept udp 70 udp.source=udp.domain

and still every first client-connection gets a bad-response at ISP-connection,
forcing the user to try a second time the connection and only then
transfering data...
here is my last /var/log/messages :
(please note the "can't locate module ppp-compress" and
"start tap0: SIOCSIFMETRIC: Operation not supported"... what did I forgot ?
should I place any alias to conf.modules other than tap0,tap1, etc.etc. ?)

btw: new tasks awaiting :

- which is the best method to see (or calculate) the actual real connection
to my ISP ?
- to mr. Olivetti : did you notice that the new sendmail shipped with RH
6.0 doesn't have
anymore the (nodns) option in m4 ? they talk about a /etc/service.switch
... which
is its syntax ??? btw...should I jump to qmail ? is it working ok with RH6 ?
- anyone made a smart mail server which recognizes network-outgoing and
places in
the mail reply-to my only ISP-email (while still working for local mail)?
so that my user doesn't have to manage to account (one network-outgoing
and one
        local)

thanks to anyone so patient to reply...
