With the proposed changes all seems to have compiled properly except for a
warning that reads (as I recall): 

"comparison between distinct function types lacks a cast" 

with reference to sourcefile timer.c, lines 87 & 88.

Since this is only a warning, can I assume that I can safely disregard
this message?
