Hi Michael

Under 2.2 kernel diald could use ether_tap. 

1. Compile the kernel with CONFIG_PACKET=m and CONFIG_NETLINK=y
2. In conf.modules:
alias net-pf-17 af_packet
alias tap0 ethertap 
option tap0 -o tap0 unit=0 
3. Create device tap0
mknod /dev/tap0 c 36 16
4. Start diald compiled with ether_tap support.
