1) Be sure the kernel has all the proper support, either in-kernel or as
modules. In addition to standard networking, TCP/IP, and ppp support,
you need ethertap and af_packet. I did the ethertap as a module:
CONFIG_ETHERTAP=m
CONFIG_PACKET=y
2) Add to /etc/conf.modules: (Second one probably not needed)
alias tap0 ethertap
options tap0 -o tap0 unit=0
3) Create an ethertap device: (This may have already been done by
your distribution so first check to see if it already there)
mknod /dev/tap0 c 36 16
4) If I remember correctly, you don't need to do anything special
to build or configure diald so that it uses tap -- it will figure
this out by itself once the above is set up right.
