I am still strugling with the lost packet(s) when diald starts up. 

        I now understand _why_ they are lost, but that does not make it any
        easier to live with :-(

        What concerns me, is that is does not have to be this way.

        user mode ppp in FreeBSD preforms the dame functionality as diald/pppd,
        and it does not suffer from thsi problem.

        It simply aliiases the original (dummy) IP adress to the new
        (negotiated) one. Thus no packets are lost. 

        Can't we do somehting like that? If anyone is interested, I have more
        details on how this is acomplished in an email from the FreeBSD
        userland ppp maintainer.
