Buffered packets cannot be sent out easily if you are getting a dynamic
IP address. Tell diald not to buffer packets and
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_dynaddr

The newer version of diald is really new and improved. It works fine on
my 2.0.36 system. I hope you switch to it. Especially since it is no
longer supported (unless you do so yourself, but that may be duplication
of effort)
