Nope, I followed the instructions (as I have previously) in the RH
manual for building and installing a kernel.

What is /dev/ppp, and why would I need one now when I didn't need
it before??  And how do you KNOW that is /dev/ppp? By which I mean:
HOW COULD I FIGURE IT OUT FOR MYSELF?
