Environment: RH Linux 6.0, Cyrix 586/133, 16 MB RAM as server running dhpcd,
IPForwarding and IP Masguerade
Adtran Express 3000 ISDN modem external on 16650 COM port, NE2000 ethernet
card, Windows 95 and 98 clients.
I had a working setup with the demand feature of pppd. A Windows client
computer could connect to any service, and pppd would bring the link up if
it was down. Problem is, there always seems to be stuff coming down the
link, so pppd never dropped the connection. Diald seemed to be the answer. I
have it running and it brings the link up fine - the first time. I also
disconnects after the set interval. However, during the disconnect it
produces the error messages 'Nonzero exit status (7) on command /sbin/route
add 10.0.0.2 metric 1 dev sl0' and 'Nonzero exit status (7) on command
/sbin/route add default metric 1 netmask 0.0.0.0 dev sl0'. Subsequent
attempts to raise the link usually fail. Ping will succeed most often but
not always, a web browser will work two or three times, and email (Outlook)
usually doesn't work at all.
I have tried the -reroute parameter and various values for the fake IP
addresses, but they don't help.
Here is my diald.conf:
