I also found that that was the only solution that worked reliably for me.
Adding the additional filter commands did NOT solve the problem and, if I
recall correctly, may have introduced some Samba problems.  Instead, I did
the full-blown, more technically challending solution of installing a local
caching nameserver on my linux server, created a private local domain,
configured the nameserver to do forwarding only to my ISP's nameserver, and
configured the windows boxes to use my local nameserver for dns.  It's been
working like a charm.
