wvdial.dod ,timeouts and puzzling logs...

I've got wvdial working with the new firewall ruleset. Only one problem remains, the link is'nt going down after the number of idle minutes has passed. There seems to be something keeping the link alive and this is what i get from the messages log
 

Jan 16 13:58:34 Spidey pppd[2397]: sent [LCP EchoReq id=0x6 magic=0x244fd753]

Jan 16 13:59:04 Spidey pppd[2397]: rcvd [LCP EchoRep id=0x7 magic=0xf894d629]
Jan 16 13:59:34 Spidey pppd[2397]: sent [LCP EchoReq id=0x8 magic=0x244fd753]

As you can see they clearly occur every 30 seconds and i'm assuming
this is what's keeping the link from dieing as it's never idle for more
than 30 seconds.

Can anybody please point me in the right direction to solving this
problem?
