0.16 does not compile on it's own. It should be patched to version 0.16.5
to be completely stable. (Well that's true on RedHat systems at any rate.
Though 0.16.4 works well on many systems.)
There are rpm and debian packages of 0.16.5 floating around. The debian
package on the freshmeat.net page is the 0.16.5 version.

does not have the source code available any longer]
With kernel 2.2.x I'd recommend the upgrade.
