That would be a dns lookup.  Are you running any software
(maybe in the background) that would need to perform such
a procedure?  

Maybe you have a cron job that coincides with when this
happens.  If this seems to happen at regular times, then
that is possible.

Watch the logs and look to see what time the link is brought
up unexpectedly.
