After tinkering around for most of saturday, here's the solution I
came up with in case anyone else is interested.
I added this to filter.cfg
# Prevent MS Messenger from keeping link up when idle
ignore tcp tcp.dest=1863
keepup tcp 300 tcp.source=1863
This way, the incoming packets on port 1863 of an active conversaion
will keep the link up. When there is no conversaion, but the chat
client is polling the server, the link will drop.
