How about configuring sendmail to stop doing name resolution?
if you configure using m4 source then add
FEATURE(nocanonify)dnl
to your configuration, rebuild the sendmail.cf file and restart sendmail.
if you were using postfix you would use the
disable_dns_lookups = yes
option in your main.cf file.
This presumes your ISP has their smtp server configured to do all the name
checks.
